Sandwiches give buffs to your Pokémon depending on the ingredients you use.

Sometimes, all you want at the end of a long day of avoiding bullies and walking along Victory Road is a sandwich to relax with. Sandwiches are a new way for you and your Pokémon to get passive boosts, and they are part of the new Picnic activity in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. These buffs can change the Pokémon you meet, the experience you get, and the things that fall from the sky. Buffs last 30 minutes per sandwich.

The benefits of eating the sandwich will depend on what you choose to put in it. For instance, sweet foods tend to increase Egg Power, while bitter things tend to increase Item Drop Power. If you’re looking for something specific, it’s important to know how the buffs work and how they interact with each other. There are a lot of different buffs and even more ways to combine them.

You can always follow set recipes, but it can be helpful to try out different ways to put ingredients together. Most of these recipes can be unlocked by talking to the sandwich guy who stands outside the sandwich shop. As you move to different places, he will give you new ones. Go back to your house and talk to your mom about what else you could make. You don’t have to follow these recipes, since there is also a “creative” mode, but doing so is a quick way to find out what you will get. (In order to find shiny things, you might be able to find better ways to do it than by increasing your Sparkling Power.)
