A record low water level has been recorded in Lake Mead, a reservoir that provides 350,000 households with energy,

as well as 25 million people with irrigation and drinking water.

Megadrought brought on by climate change and rising water demands in the Southwestern United States

are the causes of the falling water levels. There are growing concerns that Lake Mead

might eventually become a "dead pool" because of water levels that are too low to allow

water to flow from neighbouring Hoover Dam downstream.

The biggest man-made reservoir in North America, Lake Mead, has seen its water level

decrease to around 1,044 feet above sea level, according to the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation.

Since Lake Mead was filled in 1937 with the building of the Hoover Dam, the water level has never been lower.
