In an edited excerpt from an updated version of the book, Why I'm No Longer Talking to White
People About Race author examines how far we've gone two years after the Black Lives Matter protests that sent the book to the top of bestseller lists.
25 May 2020. Minnesota's Minneapolis. George Floyd has just purchased a pack of smokes with a false $20 money and
is leaving the store. A staff member has phoned the police in accordance with the rules of the workplace.
George is detained, bound, and taken to the squad vehicle. He now starts to act in a very distressed manner.
He is restrained by police, one of whom climbs on top of the other and places a knee on George's neck.
George cries out in protest and claims he can't breathe, but the cop nonetheless kills him.
He seemed to accept his destiny after that. He says, "I love you, mom." Inform my children of your affection. He then abruptly stops speaking.
The knee is not raised until paramedics arrive. George's corpse is placed on a stretcher
with his limbs hanging free. He is pronounced dead at a local hospital an hour later.
