‘I could have been a Mo Farah’: trafficked boxer denied his shot at Olympic glory by Home Office

When Kelvin Bilal Fawaz had the opportunity to represent Team GB as a boxer at the 2012 Olympics in London

it was a dream come true. He is a brilliant talent with the passion and ambition to make it all the way to the top.

Fawaz had the chance to achieve Olympic success in the country he now called home after being

forced into domestic slavery as a youngster after being trafficked from Nigeria to the UK.

However, he was never given the opportunity to establish himself on the world stage.

Instead, the Home Office turned down his application for the work visa he required to pursue a professional

boxing career, forcing him to decline an offer from Team GB to compete in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics.

Sir Mo Farah first rose to fame by winning two gold medals at the 2012 Olympics before adding another pair in Rio in 2016.
