There are a lot of new players as well as veteran players looking for a way to play Overwatch 2 without having to provide a phone number. The primary reason for this is that the game is incompatible with a variety of prepaid phone plans, as well as some postpaid phone plans. However, there is some encouraging information for the players. It has come to our attention that it is possible to play Overwatch 2 without the use of a mobile device; therefore, without further ado, let us investigate this possibility.
How to Play Overwatch 2 Without a Phone Number
If you have played the first Overwatch game after June 9, 2021, then you are eligible to play the sequel without providing a phone number. Therefore, it is unfortunate that new players cannot participate in the game without providing a phone number. As of the 7th of October 2022, this modification has been implemented.
The elimination of smurfs and cheaters in the game was one of the primary motivations behind putting players’ phone numbers into play. You can therefore understand, to some extent, why Blizzard does not permit new players to play without first providing a phone number.
Toxic behavior will result in a ban from the server regardless of whether or not the player has previously played the base game. Therefore, original players should get the most out of their account because, once they are permanently banned from the game, creating a new account will require them to provide a phone number.
If you are someone who does not have a phone number or who has a prepaid number. There are still two options available to you, and it is important to note that both of these require a phone number.
- Use someone else’s number: In case you have a family member or a friend that doesn’t plan to play Overwatch 2 and has a postpaid plan. Then you can use their number to register. Do remember one account can only use one number. So if they ever plan to play they won’t be able to with their number.
- Get your plan changed or get a New number: Before we even check it, this option isn’t for everyone. It is completely understandable if you don’t get a number just for a game. But if you want to play Overwatch 2, then sadly this will be the only option you have.
- Wait: This also isn’t a very reliable option but something you don’t have much choice about. You will have to wait for Blizzard to change this policy and hope that sometime down the line they completely remove the need of having to use a phone number.
